Sellwood’s History

I founded Sellwood Products in 1976 with a core business of supplying and installing spiral staircases and shower doors. When first shown folding attic stairs in 1979, I immediately saw the potential for providing homeowners safe, easy access to storage space in their attic, space they were paying for but could not otherwise access. My wife and I bought a stand at the Auckland Home Show in 1980 and for the first time the New Zealand public saw folding attic stairs.

For the next 20 years we imported attic stairs from around the world, generating public awareness through Home Shows and word-of-mouth all the while building a reputation for fantastic customer service and support. In 1998, the opportunity came to design and manufacture our own range of Sellwood Attic Stairs here in New Zealand. With an extensive knowledge of attic stairs from around the world, I set out to develop an attic stair that would consistently outperform its rivals. By April 1999, the first batch of New Zealand Made Sellwood Attic Stairs was available for sale.

Today Sellwood Products dominates the New Zealand attic stair market by providing the biggest range of quality attic stairs available.

Atticstore Systems’ History

As Sellwood Products grew we became aware of two distinct markets to be serviced. Sellwood was selling increasing numbers of attic stairs through leading builders supply merchants, which were being purchased by builders and DIYers to install themselves. As well as this, we continued to measure, quote and fit attic stairs into existing homes.

In late 2003 we decided that Sellwood Products required a separate strategy to develop the supply and install of attic stairs and to promote the concept of a complete attic storage solution. So Atticstore Systems was born, a separate company within the Sellwood group, dedicated to increasing the usable storage space within the home by creating ready to use attic storage space.

Over the last 30 years Sellwood Products and Atticstore Systems have installed attic stairs for thousands of satisfied homeowners, thrilled to be able to utilise the storage space in their attics.
